In October of 2021 my husband and I celebrated our 21st anniversary. To keep things fun, I bought us matching t-shirts on Etsy. Level 21 complete! In addition to looking cute, this year we celebrated by visiting Ogunquit, Maine. Ogunquit is about three hours from home, so road trip!
When doing my pre-trip research, everyone I talked to shared how much they enjoy visiting Ogunquit. I wasn’t sure if the visit would live up to all the hype. But they were right, I loved it! What’s not to love? Ogunquit is oceanfront, has a huge sandy beach, serves up delicious food, and has cute shops. Yup, definitely worth a visit.
Where to stay in Ogunquit Maine?
I’m sorry to say I don’t suggest the Colonial Inn. While charming on the outside, the inside of the Colonial Inn is showing its age. Honestly, I would not stay here again. The inn is VERY old with narrow hallways, and small rooms. While these issues are a little uncomfortable, my real problem was the floors. The floors were dangerously uneven. It may sound dramatic but it is unfortunately, true. And, the carpets were disgusting. Even my husband refused to walk on the floors without his slippers. Ick!
While I would not stay in the Colonial Inn again, I would try to stay very nearby because there were a couple of benefits to staying at the inn. First, and most important, is the location. Colonial Inn is within walking distance to many great attractions such as the Marginal Way, Perkins Cove, and the shops on Main Street. The second benefit to staying at the inn was the price was reasonable, especially for the location.
Things to do in Ogunquit Maine?
Well, I love the ocean so I definitely suggest walking along the Marginal Way. Marginal Way is a beautiful oceanfront walk just over a mile long, it is paved, and has quite a few benches to sit along the path. If benches are all full, there are lots of great rocks along the Atlantic coast line. Marginal Way took us into Perkins Cove. We found Perkins Cove to be a great little spot to have lunch and do a little tourist shopping.
Not all oceanfront towns have good beaches. Ogunquit is doubly blessed because they have an awesome beach. And, I definitely suggest visiting Ogunquit Beacon while in town. Ogunquit beach is about 3.5 miles of beautiful white sand. From my experience, it is a great place to capture a sunrise or sunset picture.
Places to eat in Ogunquit Maine?
There are SO many great options for places to eat. For one dinner we chose The Front Porch. The Front Porch is a piano bar that has a fun atmosphere and delicious food. Probably no surprise that I chose flatbread pizza. 😊 In Perkins Cove we ate on the deck at Barnacle Billy’s. The sunshine was perfect and food was tasty.
For breakfast, after taking our sunrise photos, we had omelets at the Omelette Factory. Congdon’s is also a must stop for donuts. It looked like they had food trucks at Congdon’s in the evenings but we didn’t get a chance to try them. There are many places within walking distance of the beach and downtown area, however, we did have to drive to both the Omelette Factory and Congdon’s. Every place we ate was delicious, and we had no complaints. The good news is there are many more places to visit during our next trip.
We stayed in Ogunquit for just three days. Those three days were great, and I’m excited to go back.
